About a week before we were scheduled to leave for Jacksonville to report to Mayo Clinic for surgery, we were in full preparation mode.
We were getting the house ready, arranging care for our saltwater tank while we’d be gone, and figuring out everything we needed to pack for a month-long stay. I even braided my hair because honestly, who wants to worry about hair after surgery? Lol.
Meanwhile, my Central Florida family was quietly conspiring behind my back.
That Saturday, my sister Nicole told me she was just stopping by for a minute. I ran to Publix, and when I got back, they were already there. But to my surprise, it wasn’t just Nicole. My mom, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew, and niece were all there too.
The whole gang was here!
And somehow, I still wasn’t suspicious.

Not long after I got home, someone went into my laundry room and came out with a huge gift basket and the most beautiful, soft blanket. I was so surprised. If you know me, you know I love soft things, so of course the first thing I did was snuggle right into that blanket.
But it wasn’t just soft and pretty. It was special.
They explained that the whole family, including my husband, my daughters, and my Aunt Kathy, had all helped hand-knit it. They had been driving all over Central Florida behind my back, passing the blanket around and taking turns working on it.

I could not believe it.
That blanket is one of the most meaningful gifts I have ever received, and I will treasure it forever.
The gift basket was just as thoughtful. It was filled with so many comforting things for my recovery, including three pairs of pajamas, my favorite Eucalyptus Mint body care set, uplifting cards, and sweet little trinkets.
My sister was already giving me the priceless gift of a kidney, and then she showered me with even more love by organizing this beautiful surprise with our family.
I love my family so much.
